Matt Chmelka BA

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by how the human body moves.  As an athlete, I’ve watched players in a variety of sports adapt their movements to the challenges of the game – the ball, the other players, the speed, agility, strength, and power required on the court or in the field.  As a personal trainer, I now incorporate those observations and my education in the science of human movement into every fitness program.

My name is Julia and I am a National Academy of Sports Medicine certified personal trainer and group class instructor. I have a great passion for empowering clients to meet their unique goals, whether it is weight loss, muscle gain or overall functionality or performance. You can expect energetic, fun and creative workouts while still striving for proper form and safety. Whatever your goal, I believe in establishing a strong foundation, which will not only help you in the gym but most importantly, facing your everyday challenges. Currently, I am working on a Corrective Exercise Specialization certification to further develop my understanding of movement and postural deficiencies.

I was born and raised in Finland where active lifestyle was part of my upbringing- it included dancing, skiing, swimming in lakes and climbing trees. My devotion to movement developed further when I started weight lifting 4 years ago. My infatuation with health and fitness actualized into a personal trainer’s career as my passion for exercise grew. Now my training is heavily focused on Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and boxing, which I supplement with lifting, yoga, circuit training, and group exercise classes.

I have been a Certified Personal Trainer for 10 years, training clients of all ages. I believe the best results come when health and fitness are incorporated into an enjoyable, sustainable lifestyle. I am passionate about helping my clients understand how good nutrition and exercise can improve their overall quality of life and enable them to get more enjoyment out of the activities they love.

With the understanding that everyone’s body and goals are unique, I approach every session with my client’s specific needs in mind. Through Functional Fitness Training Programs, I incorporate a combination of flexibility, core stability, strength, and cardio into each workout, focusing on proper posture and movement patterns so that my clients can successfully perform the actions that matter most in their daily lives. My training sessions are positive with an encouraging atmosphere, motivating my clients to do their best during our sessions together and in their time outside of the gym.

The body is designed to move in a certain pattern. If that pattern gets distorted –for example, through bad posture or exercising incorrectly or other poor movement habits – the body doesn’t work as efficiently. This can result in reduced mobility, lack of flexibility and strength, and potential injury. My fitness training programs will help you correct any distortions, while improving your total body performance.

I am a National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) certified Personal Trainer as well as a NASM-certified Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES), and a NASM-certified Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES). I also am Power Plate Level 2 certified.

I am committed to helping you achieve your health and fitness goals in a safe and efficient manner. I will teach you how to maintain a healthy lifestyle with tools and techniques you can incorporate into your everyday life.
